Boonville Barn Collective is a woman-owned farm in Northern California’s Anderson Valley growing, harvesting, drying, and milling specialty chile peppers. As one of the few farms in the country producing farm-to-jar chile powders, flakes, and whole dried chiles, the brand has a compelling story rooted in place, process, and a deep respect for the land. Our goal was to translate that story into an ecommerce experience that made the farm feel as integral to the brand as the products themselves.
We designed the site to balance storytelling with a clear, intuitive shopping experience. Boonville Barn’s products range from its signature Piment d’Ville to California-grown guajillo, gochugaru, chile flakes, whole dried chiles, seasonings, and other farm-grown goods. The ecommerce experience needed to make that growing assortment easy to navigate while giving customers enough context to understand what makes each chile distinctive—and how to actually use it.
Throughout the site, we leaned into the connection between product and place. An immersive farm experience takes visitors through a year at Boonville Barn, from starting seeds and preparing fields to harvesting, drying, and packing the final product. That transparency helps communicate what “farm-to-jar” actually means: the team has a hand in nearly every part of the process, with the chiles grown, harvested, and processed on their Anderson Valley farm.
Content was also treated as an extension of the shopping experience. A robust recipe library allows customers to explore recipes by ingredient and meal type, turning unfamiliar chile varieties into something approachable and useful. Product education, recipes, farm updates, and ecommerce work together throughout the site, giving customers reasons to explore beyond an individual purchase and creating a richer expression of the brand.
The result is a Shopify experience that feels distinctly Boonville Barn: warm, tactile, informative, and deeply connected to the farm behind the products. The site gives the brand room to tell a nuanced agricultural story without sacrificing usability, creating a flexible ecommerce foundation that can grow alongside the farm, its harvests, and its evolving collection of California-grown goods.
